Comstock Township Fire Chief Edward Anthony Switalski, Jr. died when he was struck by a vehicle while on the scene of an emergency call on Wednesday, June 13, 2017. He was born on October 29, 1961 in Hinsdale, IL, a son of Edward and Rita (Lloyd) Switalski, Sr. As a young boy, Ed knew he was going to be a firefighter and dedicated his life to fire service. He worked for the Pleasantview Fire District in the southwest suburbs of Chicago for 34 years before taking the job of Comstock Township Fire Chief in June of 2013. Ed was involved in numerous organizations and served as chairman of the congregation at Peace Lutheran Church in Illinois. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. He was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed boating, fishing and playing cards. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Ralph Switalski. On September 9, 1990, Ed married Holly (nee Voykovich) who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Alison and Emily Switalski; a brother, Daniel (Nancy) Switalski of Oak Forest, IL; a sister, Nora DePaola of Bedford Park, IL; a sister-in-law, Joy Voykovich of Lombard, IL and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20th from 11am to 3pm and 4pm to 8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel 3926 South 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, June 21st at the Wings Event Center 3600 Vanrick Drive. Private interment services will be held at a later date.
