Passed away on Friday evening, April 28, 2017 at his home following a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. He was born on December 29, 1955 in Battle Creek, the son of the late Charles Sr. and Louise (Book) VonHout. In 1974, Charles graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. That same year, he joined the United States Coast Guard, where he served on the Atlantic coast, the Great Lakes and in the Middle East, until his retirement on August 1, 2007. During his time in the Coast Guard, Charles continued his education and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Lake Superior State University. He also earned his Eagles Scout and was an active volunteer for Galesburg Boy Scout Troop #265. Charles was proudly employed by CTS Telecom for more than 20 years. On May 1, 1999, Charles was united in marriage to the former Arlene R. (Williams) Dollard. He was an active member of 20th Street Church of Christ where he enjoyed acting as the song leader for the congregation. Surviving are his wife of 17 years: Arlene VonHout; sister: Christine Weever of Avon, IN; brother: Clark (Angela) VonHout of Battle Creek; three aunts; three nieces; one nephew; and several cousins. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, May 2, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple Street. A service to celebrate Charles' life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 3, at 20th Street Church of Christ, 122 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek. Pastor Josh Hydrick will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Galesburg Boy Scout Troop #265 or 20th Street Church of Christ.
