Charles Richard McDaniel, age 88, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2017. He was born on March 25, 1929 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was the son of Bruce and Elizabeth (Knowles) McDaniel. Chuck attended Paw Paw High School. He spent most of his working life with and retired from the National Waterlift Company in Kalamazoo. He was a member of the Portage Free Methodist Church most recently serving there as an usher. His true joy in recent years has been his many grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Chuck was preceded in death last year by his loving wife of 67 years Mildred; and also by a brother Melvin, sisters Marian Soule and Ruth Quigg. He is survived by his brother, Alan McDaniel of Newaygo; children, Charles McDaniel Jr. of Kalamazoo, Bruce (Lynn) McDaniel of Parchment, and Tim (Martha) McDaniel of Lawton. In addition he leaves behind 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren: and 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as many treasured nieces and nephews and their families. Special people in his life also included Ashley Serne and her family, Dave Tidwell and the Wednesday Breakfast Club. Chuck was a Korean War Veteran and actively supported community activities including Boy Scouts and sports programs while his children attended Paw Paw High School. He enjoyed coaching both baseball at the little league level and later with men's slow pitch softball. Visitation will be held at the Portage Free Methodist Church, 1715 West Centre Ave, Portage, MI at 10:00 AM on Thursday October 26th. The Memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with a luncheon afterwards. The graveside service will be held at the Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery at 3941 S. Westnedge Ave at 2:00 PM.
