Charles Daul Sr.

Although he was taken from his loved ones much too soon, Charles Daul, Sr. was an extraordinary man to know and love. He was the sort of person who lived to serve others, and his life exemplified what it means to the the hands and feet of the Lord he loved. Charles never shied away from sharing with others about the joy that lived in his heart, and he loved teaching others as well. A more devoted husband and father would be hard to find, and he was so proud to become a grandfather several times over. Life will never be the same without Charles here, but the lives of so many others will be forever changed because of his touch.

It seems only fitting that Charles began his life’s journey during a time that was as vibrant as he was. It was the 1950s when Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean all became household names. Rosa Parks sparked the flame that became the civil rights movement during this time, and by the end of the decade we had welcomed Alaska and Hawaii as our 49th and 50th states. Amidst this exciting time, Francis and Joyce (Makos) Daul were filled with unspeakable joy to welcome the baby boy they named Charles Richard into their hearts and home on June 26, 1959, in Oconto, Wisconsin. The sixth of nine children, he was raised in the family home alongside his older siblings, Michael, John, Peggy Ann, Francis “Tony,” and Ronney, and his younger siblings, JoAnn, James "Jimmer", and Sue Ann.

As a boy, Charles experienced both peaks and valleys. His parents had a farm in Gillett, Wisconsin, and in the Daul family everyone helped with the work. Charles liked growing things in the garden even though he may not have eaten them. He was a hard worker both on the farm and in his work away from the home since he took on a paying job as soon as he could. Sadly, their family experienced an unthinkable tragedy when they had a fire in the house and lost their youngest, Suzie, in the fire. Shortly thereafter, the Dauls moved to Oconto, Wisconsin. Charles attended school in Oconto and graduated from Oconto High School in 1977. He was a natural athlete who loved football, track, basketball, and baseball. Charles went on to attend the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (UWM), graduating with a bachelor’s degree in social work. With his education behind him, Charles started working, overseeing two homes for wayward boys. He later worked as vice president of electronic banking for Community State Bank. In his free time, Charles enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers.

Perhaps the thing Charles was most known for was his great love for Jesus. He was one to share the Word of God with others as he knew it backwards and forwards. Charles was a member of Parkway Apostolic Church and was a prominent Bible study teacher. His true passion was saving souls, and every time he spoke, the Word of God was most likely the topic of conversation. Charles began a church work, and he loved pastoring and preaching at “The Keys to the Kingdom” in Mount Pleasant where he was also a Bible study teacher.

Second only to his faith was the love that Charles had for his wife, Jacqueline, and their children Kashayla, Shon, Mickie, Charles, and Brittany. As a father he he was strong yet kind, and he was also compassionate, wise, loving, and stern but gentle. Charles was his children’s safe place, their hero, and the one who always knew what to do. He made everyone around him feel loved, wanted, and important, and no matter what he was always the light at the end of the tunnel. Later in life he was filled with unspeakable joy to become a grandfather to their 13 grandchildren: BriOnna, DeOnna, Dama, DemiVy, Destiny, Demar, Adrien, Juda, Deja, Makayla, Kyleigh, Kingston, and Kendal. The family celebrations were especially cherished. Especially, “Daul’s Christmas 2017” when the family purchased 23 pairs of matching pajamas. The night was filled with frozen pizzas, buffalo chicken, and dip as well as plenty of love and laughter. The movie of the night was Trolls, which turned the theme of the night to “No Daul Left Behind.” Charles was so wise and was known to say, “A soft answer turneth away wrath,” “Before change come conflict,” and, “Hanged is hanged and dead is dead.”

All who knew Charles Daul, Sr. would agree that there was no one just like him. He was kindhearted and compassionate with a love for life that was so easy to see. Charles was a man of faith who led countless other souls to embrace the life he loved. A family man though and through, he was the rock of his family. Dearly loved, he will be forever missed.

Charles is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Daul; children, Kashayla Moye, Shon Garrison, Mickie Daul, Charles Daul Jr. and Brittany Daul; mother, Joyce Daul Eberly; siblings, Michael (Louise) Daul, John (Jeannie) Daul, Peggy (Robyn) Rhode, Tony (Pattie) Daul, Ronney Daul, JoAnn (Phil) Resch, and James "Jimmer" Daul; and other relatives and friends.
