Charles "Chuck" William Overacker, age 90, passed away Monday evening, August 13, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. Chuck was born August 31, 1927 in Almena Township the son of Edwin and Ada (Rupert) Overacker. He graduated from Mattawan High School and was later united in marriage to the love of his life, Evelyn Denzel, on July 2, 1950 at the Almena United Methodist Church. A self-taught auto mechanic, Chuck owned and operated Chuck's Standard Service, a full-service auto repair and gas station in Paw Paw, for more than 40 years. During retirement, he enjoyed fishing, restoring old tractors in his garage, maintaining his lawn, and providing chocolate chip cookies to his friends at Fresenius Kidney Care. Chuck also served as "mayor" of Almena for many years. Most of all, Chuck loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them at his cottage and home on Lake Brownwood. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Evelyn; his children, Barbara (Tony) Thompson and Steven (Lisa) Overacker; four grandchildren, Sarah (Robert) Driesenga, Jill (Lewis) Butler, Matthew Thompson and Kevin (Michelle) Thompson; three great-grandsons, Bryson, Reid and Ryker, and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brothers and sister: Robert Overacker, Edna Manning and Bernard Overacker. Funeral Services for Chuck will take place Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Ave. Paw Paw, MI with Reverend Donna Keyte to officiate. Committal services to follow in Almena Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, August 16, from 5:00-8:00PM at Adams Funeral Home. Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider Almena United Methodist Church or the National Kidney Foundation. Chuck's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care for their tireless love and support over the years.
