Passed quietly in her sleep on March 31, 2019. Born Catherine L. Hooker on January 28, 1944, in Oakland, Tennessee to Willie Mae Hooker & Clarence Odell Hooker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dearly beloved husband (Kenneth Charles Ampey), and youngest brother (Matthew Swanson Hooker). Prior to the onset of her illness, Catherine had been a longtime member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she served with the Senior Mission, and for many years as the Secretary to the Treasurer, Deacon Robert White. Catherine retired from Kalamazoo Valley Intermediate School District in 1996 after a lengthy career as a Special Education Administrator. Catherine touched many lives, in many ways and will be remembered with tremendous love & respect. She is survived by Siblings: Shirley Virginia Pullen-Kalamazoo, MI, Clarence Odell Hooker (Karen)-Okemos, MI, Martin DePoris Hooker (Debra)-Albuquerque, NM, Helen Beatrice Hooker-Kalamazoo, MI, and Odessa Nelson (James)-Kalamazoo, MI Children: Veronica Lynne Ampey-Greenbelt, MD, and Gregory Scott Ampey Littlejohn (Tanya Davis)-Kalamazoo, MI; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friends. A Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2019, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church: Family hour 10:00-11:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM, Repast to follow at the church.
