Passed away peacefully at home with his family on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017. Born in Oak Park, IL, Brian was the 6th child and 2nd son of Gerald J. and Dorothy (Donar) Desmond. Brian and his family moved from Chicago to Kalamazoo in 1955 where he attended St. Augustine Elementary and graduated from Kalamazoo Hackett High School in 1968. He met and later married the love of his life, Lorene Cook, while both attended Western Michigan University. Brian worked for the City of Kalamazoo Downtown Services and Metro Transit, and later was a local Realtor. He was instrumental in the establishment of Family Adoption Consultants, a domestic and international adoption agency, giving the gift of a forever family to hundreds of youngsters. Surviving are his wife, Lorene Cook; 3 children and 10 grandchildren: Patrick (Jeri) Desmond of Paw Paw and their children Daniel Luce, Devon, Torin, Tiernan and Cora Desmond; Tamara Desmond of Three Oaks and her children Kiarra Desmond-Farmer, Shyla Desmond, Alexis and Raymond Schedler; Caileen Desmond of Kalamazoo and her son Charles "Chuckie" Adair III. Siblings Barbara (Clyde) Kellay of Salem, OR; Diane Desmond, Dorothy Vaughan, and Colleen (Norman) Brault of Royal Oak; Vincent (Kris) Desmond of Bloomington, IN; and Patricia (Mark) Biallas of Westmont, IL. Also surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws. Brian's parents and brother Gerald J Desmond Jr. (Donna) preceded him in death. All Brian's family members and friends appreciated his sense of humor and love of a well timed pun or a good joke. He made a huge impact on others throughout his life and especially enjoyed helping young people and watching them succeed. He coached many years at Oakwood Little League, mentored young people in AA, and would invest himself in the lives of not only his children and grandchildren but their friends as well. Consistent with his interests in helping young people, Brian has donated his body to WMU Homer Stryker School of Medicine. A memorial service to commemorate his life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions in Brian's memory may be made at this time to Alano Kalamazoo, 933 S. Burdick St Kalamazoo, MI, 49001 with Memo: USR/Brian Desmond.
