VanderMolen, Betty L. Of Parchment Betty Lou "Boop" Vander Molen, age 89, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 29, 2019. Betty was born February 20, 1930 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Nevins) Gosling. On May 10, 1952, she was united in marriage to Richard Vander Molen. They met when she came to Bronson Nursing School and he carried her luggage into the dorm. She was a graduate of Bronson School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse for over 35 years, working at Bronson Methodist Hospital and doctor offices including Dr. Heersma and OBGYN, P.C. Betty was a longtime volunteer at Bronson Hospital and especially enjoyed her time as a "cuddler" in the NICU and as a greeter at the information desk. She was also a member of the Bronson Alumni Association. Betty and Richard were longtime members of the First Reformed Church of Kalamazoo where she had served as Elder, was a youth group sponsor, served on several councils and sang in the choir. They are currently members of Second Reformed Church and she enjoyed working in the nursery there. Surviving are her husband of 66 years Richard Vander Molen; their three children Cheryl Vander Molen, Craig (Jayne) Vander Molen, Steven (RoseMary) Vander Molen; step-granddaughter Jamie (Vincent) Burkhardt; "special grandchildren" Elizabeth (Jason) Smith, Kate (Joshua) Smith, Samuel, Elisha, Hannah, David, Abraham and Gabriella Hougland and Julia, Andrew, Sarah, Thomas, Emma, Joshua and Gabe Rathbun; several "special great-grandchildren"; her sister Shirley (Paul) Moore; sister-in-law Mary Gosling; nieces and nephews; cousins and several other special family (including the Beachy and the Bontrager families) and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Dr. Robert and Roger Gosling. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 3rd at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, and from 10:00 to 11:00am on Thursday at the church. The service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 11:00am Thursday, April 4th at Second Reformed Church (2323 Stadium Drive) with Pastor Kevin Hart officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a time of food and fellowship in the church fellowship hall. A private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
