Mrs. Holmes passed away November 3, 2018 at home with family by her side. Betty and her twin brother Albert were born January 29, 1932 in Comstock Michigan to Gerrit and Elizabeth (Ousterhert) Timmer. Along with her three older siblings; Jake, Jennie and Rena, the family moved to a farm on West KL Ave., without electricity or indoor plumbing. She attended a one room country school that was later consolidated with Mattawan High School where she graduated in 1950. She began working at Michigan Inspection Bureau and a few days later she married Alvin Holmes on March 12, 1954, who survives. Also surviving are a Son; Dan (Linda) Holmes, a Daughter; Janis Miller,Grandchildren; Tabitha, James and Sarah Craven, Austin (Holmes) Wells, and his two Sisters; Kay Leigh and Arianna Belen, one Great-Granddaughter; Bailey Wallace, Step-Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren; Gretchen and Bill Olson, Ayden and Aria Olson, Marrissa and Rick Barnes, Uriah and Ava Barnes, Jesse and Angela Rorick, Natelie and Elijiah Rorick, several cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, both Brothers; Jake and Albert, both Sisters; Jennie (Harl) Snow and Rena (Del) Bassett, and a Son; Rodney. Betty's interests included; cross country skiing, bowling, square dancing, playing cards, scrabble and a very special interest in Bible Study. She was a member of the Parchment United Methodist Church since 1970. She and Alvin volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 10 years and then at Parchment Food Pantry. Services will be held at Parchment United Methodist Church on Tuesday November 13, 2018 with a Visitation one hour prior to the service. Her wish to be cremated has taken place. Burial will be a later date. Memorials may be made to Loaves and Fishes, Parchment United Methodist Church or the family.
