Barbara McBarnes

Barbara McBarnes, age 87, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Wednesday morning March 22, 2017 with family by her side. Barbara was born November 22, 1929 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of Richard and Margarete (Miller) DeVries, Sr. Barbara raised her loving family as a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident. Barbara was a pioneer in Kalamazoo Township. In 1955 she and her family were the first residents of Westwood neighborhood, a fact she was proud of and she enjoyed many neighbors throughout the years. Mom was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert "Bob" L. McBarnes Sr. on April 18, 2005; and 2 brothers, Bob and Richard DeVries, Jr. Barbara is survived by four loving children, Terri (Steve) Moses of Otsego, Darlene (John) Liggins of Kalamazoo, Vern (Mary) Schwarz of Shelbyville, MI, and Michelle McBarnes of Richland; 3 step children, Robert L. McBarnes Jr. of Mattawan, Debra (Steve) Lewis and James McBarnes all of Kalamazoo; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty (Thomas) Meeth of Kalamazoo and Carole Cuciurean of Ontario, Canada; a brother, Jack DeVries of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara loved good food and was an avid cookbook collector. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, camping, family picnics, garage sales, road trips, all flowers, gardening and QVC. Graveside services will be held 11 o'clock Friday, March 31st in West Oshtemo Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be directed to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes and Kalamazoo Deacons Conference. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St.
