TRAVERSE CITY — Anthony (Tony) Militello, age 70, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at his home on March 18, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on Feb. 5, 1945 in Detroit, a son of the late Salvatore and Rebecca (Elliott) Militello.

Tony attended St. Philip Neri Catholic Schools in Detroit while working at his dad’s fruit stand. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from the Detroit Institute of Technology he worked as a Store Manager for Kmart.

In 1972 Tony married Judy Derwe at St. Margaret Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores.

His job moved him around Michigan, from Bay City, to Jackson, to Dearborn, to Alma and finally, to Traverse City. After 30 years Tony retired from Kmart and subsequently went to work as a manager at the Cherry Tree Inn in Traverse City. Tony finally retired from the Cherry Tree Inn after 10 years.

He enjoyed simple things like fishing and grilling and was very handy around both his and his daughter’s houses.

Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Judy; and his cherished daughter, Carrie (Brian) Surel. He is also survived by his loving brother, James (Maria) Militello; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tim and Jacqueline (Derwe) O’Shea; niece, Stacey; nephew, Michael; and five great-nieces and nephews.

It was Tony’s wish that he be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

Please visit Tony’s webpage at www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guestbook, share a message and more.

The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.
