Annetta Mae Stuut, age 93, of Portage, MI passed away Saturday evening, March 11, 2017. Annetta was born December 21, 1923 in Decatur, MI the third child of the late Albert and Rolina (VanVorst) Slager. She grew up in Decatur and later moved to Kalamazoo where her father owned a grocery store in Oakwood. She attended school thru 9th grade, when she took a sewing job at Jolly Kids Clothing Factory where her sister was working. Annetta met her future husband, John Stuut, Jr. at a local roller skating rink. They fell in love and were married on August 18, 1943. When World War II began, John was drafted into the Army so she decided to travel with him until he went on active duty. After the war, they decided to start a family, which consisted of three sons, Duane, David, and Daniel. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church. Both Annetta and John worked at the Upjohn Company. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, bowling, golfing, and crocheting. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spending the winter months in Sebring, Florida. She and John traveled to Paris, France and the Netherlands. She was an active member in the "Knitters Club" at the Portage Senior Center. Annetta was preceded in death by her husband John; and infant son; brother, Marvin; sister, Betty; and several brother and sister in laws. She is survived by her sons, Duane (Peggy) Stuut of Three Rivers, David Stuut of Paso Robles, CA, Daniel (Kathy) Stuut of Portage; 4 grandchildren, Paul Stuut, Jon (Leslee) Stuut, Matthew Stuut, Sara Stuut; 4 great-grandchildren, Casie, Tyler, Kyle, and Carmen Stuut; her sister, Jean Mochmer; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00am Friday, March 17 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in South Portage Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Friday from 10:00-11:00am Friday prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society of Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
