A. Jerome “Jerry” Pfeiffer (ne: Aloysius Jerome Pfeiffer) passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 22, 2017. He was born in Racine on January 27, 1922, to Grace (nee: Agnes Grace Hauch) and Aloysius William Pfeiffer.

Jerome spent most of his life in Racine. He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October, 1942, and was assigned to Squadron VB115. He flew in a B24 Liberator as a bow gunner and bombardier. His squadron was assigned to the South Pacific in 1944. He saw combat from March – November, 1944. For his service, Jerome received the Distinguished Flying Cross with the Silver Star, the Air Medal, a Gold Star, two Silver Stars, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with four battle stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two battle stars, and several other medals. He was honorably discharged in March, 1946. He went on to study at the University of Wisconsin, graduating with a bachelor of business administration degree in 1949. After working as a corporation accountant in Racine, Jerome entered the insurance business in 1962. In 1968, he opened his own insurance office and continued to run his own agencies, including Pfeiffer Insurance and Pfeiffer-Endres Agency, until his retirement at age 70. From 1968 to 1986, Pfeiffer served as secretary-treasurer of Racine Independent Insurance Agents.

Quick with a joke, he had a quip and a smile for everyone he met.

Jerome was an avid golfer his entire life, playing in many leagues. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Green Bay Packers and attending reunions of his Navy unit. He was devoted to his family and attended countless sporting events and performances for two generations of nieces and nephews. He was a long-time member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. For more than 20-years, he enjoyed his daily coffee with friends.

A wonderful son and brother and an outstanding uncle and great-uncle, he will be greatly missed by his sister, K. Maryellen Carlson of Racine. His nieces and nephews have many cherished memories of Uncle Jerome; he will live on in the hearts of Patricia (late Jim) Auman of Fayetteville, NC; Tom (Lynda) Pfeiffer, Diane Carlson, and Susan (Ken) Gill, all of Racine, and Karen (Barna) Bencs of Somers. He will further be remembered by great nieces and nephews Heather (Sabin) Passacantando, Scott Auman, Johnathon (Meghan Barton) Pfeiffer, Eric Pfeiffer, Jessica Pfeiffer, Brianne Bencs, Tyler Bencs, Kaelyn Bencs, Austin Bencs, Matthew Gill, Jared Gill, Hannah Gill, and great-great niece Madison Pfeiffer. He is further survived by many cousins, friends, golf buddies, Fountain Hills residents, friends Steve and Sandi Nylander, and the family of Joanne (late Marv) Pfeiffer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Norbert and sister-in-law Joyce Pfeiffer, and brother-in-law David Carlson, as well as special aunt Elinore Hauch, and uncle Herb Hauch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 30, 2017, 9:00 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, with Reverend Yamid Blanco presiding. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends and relatives may visit with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
