Veronica “Vernie” Hagen, 62, of Traverse City died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Munson Hospice House after a short illness.

She was born July 4, 1950, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Eugene and Victoria (Malinowski) Rugani.

Vernie married David Hagen in Lancaster, N.Y., on Dec. 29, 1973. They lived in Batavia, N.Y. and later raised their family in Traverse City.

Vernie was a Registered Nurse working at Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital and most recently as a home health care RN with In Home Health Care and Harbor Care and Associates. She was caring for patients until her illness.

Vernie enjoyed gardening, bird watching, especially her hummingbirds; and visiting with her three children and four grandchildren.

Vernie is survived by her husband, David Hagen of Traverse City; children, Christopher Hagen of Seattle, Wash., Matthew (Ruth) Hagen of Singapore, and Meredith (Jason) Davis of Fort Carson, Colo.; grandchildren, Natalie, Xander, MacAlister and Akasha; sisters, her twin Victoria (Philip) Ferro, Margaret (Philip) Chiappone, Mary Ann (Mark) Davis;and brothers, Gene (Linda) Rugani, Thomas Rugani and John (Teresa) Rugani and sister and brother-in law, Peggy (Mike) Fleetwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Victoria; stepmother, Mary Rugani; brother-in-law, Thomas Hagen and mother-in-law, Nora Hagen.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Vernie Hagen to the YMCA Bold Mountain School, 909 4th Ave., Seattle, WA, 98104.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Citro as celebrant. The family will greet friends starting at 10 a.m.. A light reception will be follow the Mass at Sleder’s Family Tavern for family and friends.
