Joan Johnston

Joan I. Johnston, 81, formerly of Bradley, IL now of Winfield, IL was born to Milo and Alice Swanson Miller. She married Robert F. Johnston on June 14, 1952 and he preceded her in death in April of 1995 Joan was a dedicated elementary school teacher in the Kankakee School District for 35 years and retired in 1990. She received her Bachelor degree from Northwestern University. She was a previous member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee, IL She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, volunteered at Metropolitan Family Services of DuPage County. She received her most enjoyment from her family and friends. Her immediate family includes two daughter and sons in law, Julie and Mark Fletcher of Frankfort, IL, and Nancy and Michael Place of Winfield, IL, four grandchildren Natalie Johnson, Brian Fletcher, Alison and Elizabeth Place and two great grandchildren, Rhya Johnson and Kaden Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are for CNS Hospice, 690 East North Ave., Carol Stream, IL 60188. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 5 to 8 pm at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Home. There will be no funeral service. Burial will be at Kankakee Memorial Gardens.
