John Harold died at home peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 19, 2008. He was born November 16, 1918 in Pleasant Plane, IL, the son of the late Clyde and Dora (Pierce) Ellis. John Harold was a veteran of both the United States Marine Corp and the United States Navy, serving during World War II as a medic. He was employed by the Upjohn Co. for 35 years, until his retirement in 1981. On November 25, 1939, John Harold was united in marriage to Elizabeth Greene in Kalamazoo, who survives. Also surviving are their two children, Deborah (Bruce) Moore of Plainwell, and Beth (Bill) Barrett of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Jason (Kelley) Moore, Nannette (David) Stultz, Chad (Natalie) Moore, Erin (Jason) Chapman, and Kyle Barrett; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Mason Moore, and Makayla Stultz; three sisters, Fay (Dix) VanDaff of Battle Creek, Barb Zoutman of Parchment, and Dena Stewart of Kalamazoo; one brother, Vernon (Sandy) Ellis of Kalamazoo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Gale Ellis; and one sister, Ethel Ellis. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. Jerry D. Lewis, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Thursday (tomorrow) at the funeral home.
