OVERMIRE - Bernadine Marie Hulett Overmire passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the age of 89 with the grace and dignity she always demonstrated throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Stubby" Overmire in 1977, and her son, Frank Overmire Jr. in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Ann (James) Keller; two grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Keller and three granddaughters, Melissa, Christina and Jennifer Overmire; as well as her sister-in-law, Ruth Overmire and many nieces and nephews. Bernie, as her friends called her, was born in Sunfield, MI on July 23, 1920 but lived in Grand Rapids before moving to Lakeland, FL in 1972 where she lived for the next 30+ years. She returned to Michigan three years ago to live near her daughter. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid bowler and extremely active throughout her twilight years. Bernie made friends wherever she went and was often the life of the party. No one could have more fun with 6 beers and a deck of cards than the Overmires, Lurtsemas, Witzels, Mulvihills, Barts, DeJongs and many more. She will be missed by all that had the opportunity to meet her. A special thanks to the staff of Metron of Cedar Springs for their outstanding care and compassion as well as Hospice of Michigan. At Bernie's request cremation has already been performed. No funeral services will be held but donations can be made to the Godfrey Lee High School Baseball Team: 1335 Lee Street SW, Wyoming, MI 49509 whose baseball field has been named after Bernadine's husband, "Stubby". If you wish to honor her memory, she requested that everyone visit her beloved Detroit Tigers who caused her as much joy as anguish and have a cold beer and hot dog on her behalf. She also saved a special place in her heart for the West Michigan White Caps and Lee High Rebels. Play Ball! Ofield Funeral Home
