Wilma J. DeVries

Age 82, died September 18, 2019. She was born August 21, 1937, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of John and Nellie (Pons) Van de Werken. Wilma was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School in 1956 and remained active in reunion planning throughout her life. On June 20, 1958, she married Roger DeVries, who preceded her in death. They loved Saturday Date Nights listening to gospel music, especially at the Hillsdale Gospel Barn. They were members of Fourth Reformed Church and after its closing Wilma had attended Oakwood Bible Church. She retired from Sears where she had worked in Catalog and Customer Service. Wilma's family includes her children: Marcia (Bill) Vlietstra, David (Kim) DeVries, and Lisa (Tim Thornton) DeVries; her grandchildren: Jeffrey (Kasey) Vlietstra, Amanda (Dustin) Prescott, Katelyn (Rex Powers) Currier, and Cedar Currier; her great-grandchildren: Payton, Trevor, and Natalie; and her niece Wendy (Greg) Newhouse. Visitation will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where her funeral service will be held on Monday, September 23, at 11 AM with Pastor Steve Johnson officiating. Graveside services will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Hillsdale Gospel Barn.
