Willemina Altje Havenaar, 90, originally from Katwijk, The Netherlands, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 1st, 2020, surrounded by family. She was born October 30th, 1930 to Jacob and Leuntje (Vander Plas) Varkevisser. She was one of seven children. She married Fred Havenaar in 1950 and had six children in the Netherlands, before coming to America in 1959. After arriving to America, they had 2 more children. She found a home church at Second Christian Reformed. Throughout her years at Second, she participated with serving at many church functions, and went on several mission trips, and was famous for making ollie bollen and banket. She was known at the Christian Schools Grandparents Day event, as having one of the largest groups of grandkids in attendance at the school. She was an avid and competitive knitter and enjoyed knitting blankets and outfits for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as others. Fred and Wilma established and grew Havenaar's Greenhouse in 1968, which is still around today. Wilma is most known for her work ethic and her faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Wilma had a passion for growing flowers and had to be involved with all of the planting process. During the last seven years, Wilma's health began to decline as Alzheimer's began to take over her body. Oma was able to live with her grandson Rob (Joie) Havenaar and family. She greatly enjoyed the care and support they were able to provide her. Wilma will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded by her husband, Fred, her brother Jaap, and her sisters, Rein and infant sister Janneke. She is survived by her three sisters, Ali Van Dreunen, Leuntje (Chris) De Bruin and Janna Oldenhage, her five sons, John Havenaar of Indianapolis, IN, Frederik (Conchita) Havenaar, of Kalamazoo, MI, Jack (Carol) Havenaar, of Parchment, MI, Willem Havenaar, of Kalamazoo, MI, Robert (Diane) Havenaar, of Kalamazoo, MI and her three daughters, Laine Havenaar, of Kalamazoo MI, Roeny Baranoski, of Schoolcraft, MI, and Alice (Steven) VanGemert of Kalamazoo, MI. In addition to her children, she has 24 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, in laws and cousins. Private graveside services will be held in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. A church memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020, in Second Christian Reformed Church, 3013 Nichols Road. All attending are required to wear masks and keep social distancing as much as possible. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Second Christian Reformed Church – Mission Fund.
