Life Story / Obituary
William John “Bill” Stoner, aged 90, went to be with his Lord on November 18, 2018 as his family was gathered bedside at his residence at Samaritas Senior Living of Grand Rapids, MI. He shared 67 years of marriage and is survived by his loving wife, Rosalind “Rosie” (Gerber) and blessed with their children David (Wendy), Timothy (Patty), Jonathan (Amy) all of Grand Rapids, Philip (Beth) of Brentwood TN and their daughter Sharon Blasen of Chicago; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Bill was born July 10, 1928 in Westmoreland County, PA. After graduating high school in 1947 in New Castle, PA, he joined the Army serving two years as a radio operator. Upon discharge he continued his education at the Baptist Bible Seminary of Johnson City, NY where he met Rosie. They served over three decades under the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism, Harrisburg, PA as missionaries to Chile, Spain, and a one year assignment to Hungary. After returning to the States, they continued actively involved at Maple Lawn Baptist Church, The Potter’s House School, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and the Narrow Gate Foundation of Duck River, TN.
Visitation with family will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the chapel at Samaritas Senior Living of Grand Rapids, 2000 32nd Street SE Grand Rapids, MI 49508 followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. A private family burial will precede these events.
