Dr. William K. "Bill" Stewart, 82, of Coldwater, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Maple Lawn Medical Care and Rehabilitation Facility in Coldwater. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. of Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Coldwater with Pastor Julie Yoder-Elmore officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the church memorial gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the service begins. Bill was born on February 10, 1936 in Mount Clemens to Dr. James and Lucille (Oberlin) Stewart. He graduated from Mount Clemens High School in 1954 and went to the University of Michigan where he earned his bachelor degree. From there, he enrolled in the Wayne State University Medical School where he earned his doctorate. On June 20, 1959 he married the former Beverly Job at the First Methodist Church in Mount Clemens, MI. She preceded him in death in 2007. After moving to Union City in 1964, Bill went into medical practice with Dr. Robert M. Leitch, later taking over the practice. In addition to serving Union City as a primary care doctor, he served as Chief of Staff at the former Community Health Center of Branch County and as Medical Director of Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. He married Terry (Mobley) Cottrell in 2009 in Angola, IN. She survives. He officially retired in 2010, but continued to work for CHC Hospice for several more years. Through the years, Bill was active in the Rotary Club of Union City. He was a member of the Branch County Medical Society and served as the Union City Athletic Team Doctor for many years. He was a model train enthusiast and was a member of the Peninsular Model Train Club in Battle Creek and was an avid golfer. He was passionate about U of M football and had a great sense of humor. He was very intelligent, loved to read science fiction novels and always continued to improve his mind. He will be remembered for being a generous and compassionate man and his service of 46 years to people of Union City and all of Branch County will not soon be forgotten. In addition to his wife, Terry, Bill is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth (Terry) Harvey of Coldwater and Rebecca (Rob) VanNess of Kalamazoo; sons Robert (Connie) Stewart of Bloomfield Hills and Derek (Morgan) Stewart of Kalamazoo; grandchildren; Steven Juzwiak and Tyler VanNess, Alison and Jeffery Harvey, step-daughters Tonya (Ted) Alleshouse of Angola, IN, Shelby (Tim) Arey of Quincy, Laura (DeLynn) Hughett of Knoxville, TN, sister-in-law Carolyn (Jim) Wetli of Reeds Spring, MO, 10 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Beverly Stewart and his brother-in-law, Charles Mobley. Memorial contributions may be directed to Promedica Hospice in Coldwater.
