William Richard Burton, age 84, passed away October 13, 2018. Richard was born January 20, 1934 in Kalamazoo, the son of Edward and Gladys Burton. He was a graduate of Plainwell H.S. in 1951, and served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58. Richard was employed with Cummins Label prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church, Kalamazoo Masonic Anchor Lodge #22, 33rd Degree Mason, Knights Templar of Kalamazoo, Commandery Lodge #8. Richard was a sports enthusiast, softball, bowling, especially baseball and enjoyed word search books. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan all his life and family requests wearing red for the funeral. He was a member of Senior Citizens Softball Leagues of Kalamazoo. On February 12, 1955 he was united in marriage to the former Margaret E. (Disbrow) Burton, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Forrest Scott Burton and Brenda Sue Burton; grandchildren, Robert Soule, Anna (Justin) Stephens, Clarissa Kelley; great-grandchildren, Gavin Soule, Blake Stephens, Andre Kelley II, Kayalara Kelley; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Francis Eager, Edwina DeFelice; daughter, Corrinne Worden; grandson, Kendall Phillips. Friends may meet the family from 10-11:00am Friday, October 26 at Galesburg United Methodist Church, 111 W Battle Creek St, Galesburg, MI 49053, where services will follow at 11:00am. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:30pm on Friday, October 26th in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for funeral expenses.
