Although his life was filled with numerous enriching experiences, there was nothing that was more near and dear to the heart of Walter Pajaczkowski than his family. He was a longtime member of his community, and with his approachable demeanor he was the sort of person whom everyone seemed to know. Walter worked hard, but he played hard, too. A true gentleman if ever there was one, he was willing to help others whenever he could. Walter took his roles as a husband and father to heart, but he really enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s lives. Deeply loved, he will be forever missed.

The year 1929 is often recalled as the year that the prosperous days of the Roaring Twenties came to a screeching halt with the crash of the stock market in October of that year. That historic crash of the stock market ushered in the dark days of the Great Depression that covered our nation and much of the world throughout the 1930s and beyond. It was just prior to that fateful day in October that Peter and Agnes Pajaczkowski were eagerly awaiting the birth of their new baby as summer held the town of Saint-Calixte, Quebec, Canada, firmly in its grip. It was on July 27th that the baby boy they named Walter J. drew his first breath. He was one of five Pajaczkowski children and was raised in the family home alongside his siblings, Joe, Emile, Mary, and Stella. To support their family, Walter’s father was both a tailor and farmer while his mother was a busy homemaker. In many ways he was a young boy of his generation who enjoyed things like hunting and fishing. Walter attended local schools through the ninth grade and then went on to complete trade school.

With his education behind him, Walter was eager for all that life had in store. He spent some time working in machine repair for Canada Iron. In 1969 Walter immigrated to the USA from Canada, and continued his career in machine repair at Ford Motor Company.

Although he enjoyed his work, Walter loved his time away, too. He was blessed to share 57 years with the love of his life. Her name was Vicky, and they met at a local dance hall, Dom Polski Hall. It wasn’t long after meeting that Walter and Vicky found themselves deeply in love. With a desire to spend the rest of their lives together, the sweethearts were married on August 2, 1958. Together they welcomed two daughters including Joanna and Helene into their hearts and home. Later in life, Walter was filled with unspeakable joy to witness his family tree blossom to include their four grandsons, Derek, Adam, Evan, and Collin. He loved watching his grandsons play their various sports, cheering them on from the sides. In addition, Walter enjoyed watching the Red Wings, gardening, and woodworking. Within his community, he was Past Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator and Comptroller of Holy Cross Council and Assembly. A truly wise and gifted man, Walter spoke English, Polish, French, and Ukrainian.

With a life that spanned times of war and times of peace, times of plenty and times of want, Walter Pajaczkowski created a priceless collection of memories with his family and friends. It has been said that he was “pre-punctual,” and he was always a gentleman, too. Never one to worry about what others thought, Walter wasn’t afraid to do things his own way, and he was a genuine Mr. Fix-It who never backed away from a challenge. When things did not work out exactly as he had planned, Walter would use his key phrase, "what the shit". Although he will be deeply missed, he will never be forgotten.

Walter J. Pajaczkowski passed away November 4, 2015. Loving husband of 57 years to Vicky. Beloved father of Joanna (Frank) Chavez, Helene (John) Dimitroff. Cherished grandfather of Derek, Adam, Evan, and Collin. Past Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator of Holy Cross Council and Assembly. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-9 pm with a rosary at 7 pm at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home 30200 Five Mile (Between MiddleBelt and Merriman). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday 11 am at St Genevieve – St Maurice Parish, 29015 Jamison ( east of MiddleBelt). Instate 10:15 am until Mass begins. Interment St Hedwig Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Angela Hospice. To share a favorite memory and/or photo of Walter and to sign the online guestbook, please visit www.turowskilifestory.com
