Walter Hively

Walter E. Hively Jr., age 89, of Portage, MI died Sunday afternoon July 24, 2016 in Battle Creek, Michigan a son of Walter and Anna Mae (Callahan) Hively, Sr. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Wisconsin (BB-64). He had been a Kalamazoo area resident his whole life and was employed with the Peter Eckrich and Sons Company for 39 years, retiring in 1979. Walter also attended the Portage Street Baptist Church years ago. He enjoyed golf, country music, and spending time with his grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Regina G. Hively on October 24, 2005; and 2 sisters, Irene Bartz and Beverly Ayers. He is survived by 3 children, Nurah Zen al Abidin of Tucson, AZ, Timothy Hively of Tucson, AZ, and Walter "Walt" (Stephanie) Hively of Kalamazoo; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a niece. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 1st, 11 o'clock at Radiant Church, 8157 East DE Ave., Richland. Friends may meet the family immediately following the service at the church. Private inurnment will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the VA Hospital-Battle Creek.
