Virginia M. Vliek, age 95, of Decatur, MI passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at home. Virginia was born May 3, 1921, the daughter of Earl and Loretta (Hughes) Copley. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in the Decatur area. She was very active in the Decatur community as a volunteer for Decatur Human Services for several years, the United Way, was on the Board of Directors of First State Bank in Decatur, was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Decatur, where she was their choir director for 40 years, and choir director for the First Reformed Church in Decatur for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alfred Osmick in 1980 and Gerald Vliek in 2014, her parents, Earl, Loretta and Margaret Copley and a brother, Allan Copley. Survivors include six daughters, Carol (Joseph Bard) White of Byron Center, MI, Marcia (Douglas) Sikkema of Decatur, Diane Osmick of Decatur, Lisa (Raymond) Carlson of Spring Lake, MI, Leslie (David) Smeltzer of Augusta, MI, Lyle Vliek of Kalamazoo; two sons, David (Joanne) Osmick of LaGrandeior, OR, Robert (Kerry) Osmick of Marcellus; ten grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Lou (Robert) O'Connell of Jackson, MI. Friends may call Monday, from 5-8 PM in the Newell Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday in the first Presbyterian Church in Decatur with Rev. Will Christians officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to the church, Decatur Human Services, or the charity of one's choice.
