Virginia Hiemstra

Virginia Helen Hiemstra, age 90, of Kalamazoo, MI went to be with our Lord, on Sunday, September 4, 2016. She was born on September 25, 1925 in Lee County, Kentucky, and grew-up as a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. Mrs. Hiemstra was employed by Schwartz 's Chicken Charlie's (and later Damon's), where she was affectionately known as Pat, for over 40 years until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman John Hiemstra, two great-grandchildren: Amy Alyn Barnhart, and Brian Barnhart; four sisters; and five brothers. Surviving are her five children: Helen Madonna (Ed) Krol, Deborah (Mark) Fitzgerald, David Hiemstra, Patrick Hiemstra, and Lorrie (Jack) Bley; six adoring grandchildren, Bethlea (Jeff) Pieratt, Aaron Barnhart, Wesley Fitzgerald, Cody (Michelle) Fitzgerald, Jessica Kehoe, and Nicolas Kehoe. She was also the great grandmother of eight: Rachel Pieratt, Tyler Barnhart, Zachary Pieratt, Reace Fitzgerald, Camden Fitzgerald, and Reagen Fitzgerald. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, September 7, at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gentiva Hospice. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
