Virginia Sue "Ginny" Doornbos, age 81, of Kalamazoo, MI went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 31, 2016. Ginny was born March 16, 1935 in Crowell, TX, the daughter of Joseph and Naomia (Ferguson) Gibson. She was raised in Texas and New Mexico, where she met her husband and was married to Raymond Doornbos on July 11, 1952 in the First Baptist Church of Roswell, NM. Ginny was employed with Western Michigan University for 20 years. They were currently members of North Park Reformed Church and former members of Southridge Reformed Church where she served as Elder. Ginny and Ray enjoyed living at West Lake; traveling and had wintered in Arizona for 15 years. She volunteered with The Red Cross, as well as an election worker. Ginny especially enjoyed reading and singing in the church choir. The most important part of her life was her family. Surviving are her husband Raymond P. Doornbos; their children Margie (Doug) Smith, Sally (Barry) Boekeloo, Joe (Sheryl) Doornbos; grandchildren Ashley (Chris) Fouch, Derek Boekeloo, Lindsay Doornbos, Lauren Smith, Elena Smith, Matthew Smith; great-grandchildren Quinn and Riley Fouch, Mason and Jaxon Wild; a sister Betty Darnell. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Thursday January 5th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. where a funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Friday with Rev. Dr. Mark Vanderson officiating. A private family graveside service will be in East Cooper Cemetery. Memorials in Ginny's memory may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
