Velma Mitchell-Collins

Velma (Mitchell) Collins was born on January 19, 1956 in Kalamazoo MI and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 60, on November 7, 2016 at Providence Health Hospital, Novi MI following a lengthy illness. Velma was a wonderful person who could always light a room with her personality. She was a leader in her dialysis support group (which she formed). She felt it was an important thing to surround herself with other people dealing with kidney failure issues and on dialysis. Velma was a friend to many, her family were amazed at how many people she knew. She loved her family and friends. She will truly be missed. Velma leaves to cherish her memory, her children Shiela Mitchell of Kalamazoo and Joshua James Mitchell of Elkhart IN. Her Mother Nellie Jean Gund (MS), her parents Adolph and Kathryne Mitchell (Kalamazoo) 7 brothers; Alan Mitchell (Karen), Anderson Gund III (Brenda) (MS), Cornelius Gund (AL), A.J. Gund (GA), Arthur Gund, and Jessie Gund (MS), and Adolph Mitchell, Jr. (Kalamazoo) 4 Sisters: Valerie Mitchell, Debra Harris-Fields (Larry) of Kalamazoo, Brenda Mansfield of Detroit and Linda Hill of (NV). Her grandchildren: Geralnina Rhymes, Shakyel Wright, Kyyel Wright, Leroy Wright and Hailey Mitchell; great-grandkids: Gabriela Wilson, Kali Wilson, and Deon McKinley III. She was loved by a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a best friend Micheryl Peake and a special friend James Jones. She is preceded in death by her other father, Anderson Gund (MS), Sister, Carolyn Sue Harris and one grandchild, Quadriyah Thompson. Services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel 11a-12p family hour with service following at noon.
