Valerie Dye

Valerie M. Dye, age 92, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on December 3, 2016 in Kalamazoo. She was born on April 15, 1924 in Penfield, New York to Clark and Maizie (Slocum) Dye. Valerie was the granddaughter of Arthur Gaylord Slocum, Baptist minister and early president of Kalamazoo College. She graduated from Portage Central High School and attended Flint Junior College. Valerie attended Westwood Methodist Church and belonged to Alpha Beta Epsilon Sorority (WMU). She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John Dye and Calvert Dye; brother in-law, Reuben Martin; sister in-law, Dorothy Dye, and nephew, Sherman Dye. Valerie is survived by her beloved sister, Virginia Martin; sister in-law, Elizabeth Dye; nieces, Phyllis Zimmerman, Tricia Wilson, Kathy Bond and nephew, Curtis Dye. Valerie enjoyed traveling, reading, history and current events. The family would like to acknowledge SouthernCare Hospice of Kalamazoo and Medilodge of Westwood for the care and compassion they showed during her final months. The family is especially grateful to family friend, Maggie Brussee, for her loving care for Valerie. Visitation will be on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Joldersma and Klein Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following at 1:00 PM. A private graveside service will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of one's choice , c/o of the funeral home.
