Thomas Matthews

Thomas W. Matthews, age 72, of Otsego, MI passed away on Saturday June 25, 2016. The sixth of seven children, Tom was born to Preston and Irene (Cheeks) Matthews on August 25, 1943 in Allegan, Michigan. He was a graduate of Fennville High School. On August 5th, 1966, he married Judy Ambrose in Cheshire, Michigan and together they raised two sons. A man of many interests and even greater talents, Tom was always ready to try something new. Throughout his lifetime, he volunteered as an EMT and firefighter for the City of Otsego; he obtained his pilot's license flying in and out of the Plainwell Municipal Airport, and rose to the level of a 32nd degree Mason. For many years, he and Judy owned and operated Matthews Apiaries in Otsego. Tom's grandchildren enjoyed sharing his hobbies of fishing, painting, and music with him, but will remember most fondly the outlandish stories he loved to spin for them. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Mary Ellen, Fran, Gerry, and Myla. He is survived by his wife Judy, his children Tom (Jerrie) Matthews and Jeff (Brenda) Matthews; his grandchildren Matt (Cathy) Matthews, Kevin Matthews, Jenna (Matt) Leyndyke, and Bobby Matthews; his great-grandchildren Cameron, Evelyn, and Charlotte; and his brothers Scott Matthews and Mike Matthews, and many nieces and nephews. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Contributions in memory of Tom may be made to the charity of choice
