Hillman, Thomas A. of Kalamazoo Thomas Albert Hillman, age 91, passed away January 4, 2018 in Kalamazoo. Tom was born March 27, 1926 in Belle Plain, IA, the son of Albert and Helen (England) Hillman. He was a resident of Michigan since 1946, the past 17 years in Kalamazoo. In 1944, during WW II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Tom was a member of the Westwood United Methodist Church. He was a strongly faith based and dedicated husband and father. An excellent mentor and assistant to many during his years of employment and volunteering. He was recognized by the State of Michigan for his decades of voluntary service. Through the years, he was involved with the Emmaus programs, Trustee boards and Missions of churches he attended. Tom enjoyed sharing stores of his military experiences and his hobbies included fishing, gardening, and feeding birds. He was notorious for being able to plan a road trip out mile for mile before the invention of GPS, the family enjoyed many Sunday drives together, and the legendary breakfast meals he loved to cook for all. On February 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Elise Christine (Thor) Hillman, who survives. Also surviving are their children Linda (Charles) Lintner, Karen (Nicholas) Yelaca, Kathleen Hillman, Cheryl (James) LaCava, Carolyn (Vaughn) Wolf; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; a brother David (Linda) Hillman; one niece and cousins. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00pm on Thursday, January 11th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Graveside Services with full military honors will be held 11:30AM on Friday, January 12th at Ft. Custer National Cemetery (those wishing to attend please meet at the cemetery entrance assembly area.)
