Susan K. Poffenberger, age 71, of Kalamazoo, Michigan and a longtime former Sturgis resident passed away early Monday morning May 29, 2017 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born October 15, 1945 in Sturgis, Michigan daughter of the late Francis and Anna Mae (Kreider) Horning, Sr. Susan had resided in Kalamazoo for the past three years. Before moving to Kalamazoo she lived her whole life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1963. On March 7, 1964 she married Terry J. Susan had been employed by Sturgis Bank and Trust Company in Sturgis for five years and following her graduation from high school worked at Grumman Olson for a short time. Her real calling was being the dedicated homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother that she was. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis and the Burr Oak Mother's Club. Sue had a passion for the game of tennis and always looked forward to the Monday and Thursday ladies tennis matches with her friends and enjoyed reading. Sue had hobbies and interests but what she truly cherished was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband: Terry; one daughter: Nicole (T.J.) Wickstrom of Cedar Springs; one son: Kevin Poffenberger of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren: Collin Poffenberger, Joshua Wickstrom, Evan Wickstrom and Anna Wickstrom; one sister: Janet DeYoung of Fort Collins, Colorado; three brothers: Francis "Bud" (Dagne) Horning of Mendon, Ronald Horning of Tomball, Texas and Norman Horning of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Patricia Mosher. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Susan K. Poffenberger will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Michael Wicks will officiate.
