Susan Maston

Maston, Mrs. Susan M. Kalamazoo, MI Devoted wife and mother, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, November 27, 2016 at home. Susie was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 21, 1946, the daughter of Olga (Dozorc) Blake. After graduating from Immaculata High School in Detroit, Susan attended Western Michigan University, attaining a degree in Special Education. While at Western, she met Paul Maston, her husband of 47 years. They were married on May 23, 1969 in Detroit where Paul was a dental student at the time. After two years in New Jersey for Paul's military service, they settled in Kalamazoo permanently. Susie was passionate about education and dedicated 30 years as a special education teacher in several public school systems in Michigan. She also enjoyed crafts and was an accomplished seamstress, needle worker and knitter. Her exquisite taste was reflected in her surroundings and everything she created. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, stamp collecting, and travel. She also had a special interest in military history and she loved cats. Susie's sweet smile charmed all who met her and they loved her immediately. In spite of a long battle with severe rheumatoid arthritis, her sharp wit and keen sense of humor never failed. Preceded in death by her mother, Susie is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Paul Maston; her two children, Brian (Caifang) Maston of Kalamazoo and Lesley (Matthew) Shabala of Kalamazoo; her aunt, Ann Dozorc and cousins Stephen Cole and Martina Stevenson, all of Detroit.
