Stephen J. Lund, age 57, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at his residence. Steve was born May 9, 1958, son of Vilas “Bud” and Ann (Nee: Meyer) Lund. He attended Mitchell School in Racine from kindergarten through junior high. He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1976. Steve attended Lawrence University in Appleton on a football/academic scholarship for his freshman year, then continued at UW Madison. In September 1979 he and Janice Russell of Racine were married and moved to the Pittsburgh, PA area where he completed his BA in business management. His occupation took him and his family across the country. Their first child, Erin was born in 1986 while they lived in Clarion, PA. Elise was born in 1989 while they were living in Mansfield, MA. From there they moved to the LA area, then they settled in Dublin, OH. After their divorce, Steve moved to Ft. Wayne, IN, returning to Racine in 2005. He was on his way to spend some time with friends in CA when injured in an accident which led to a Mersa infection which attacked his spine leaving him paraplegic.

Many Racine residents have seen Steve rolling his hand powered wheel chair or hand-cycle. He enjoyed exploring Racine’s varied neighborhoods and finding interesting and beautiful areas reached best by bike trails. Steve took part in the Lighthouse Run in 2013 and 2014. To keep in shape he was out every nice day rolling as far as Waukegan or South Milwaukee.

Steve is survived by his mother, Ann Meyerlund; sister, Nancy Combs; nephew, Christopher Combs and his wife Nancy Mae Combs; and his father, Vilas Lund, all of Racine. He is also survived by his daughters, Erin of VA, and Elise of NC; his brother and sister-in-law, Mark (Darcy) Lund and their sons, Alex and Evan Bremerton of Washington. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Lund.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 27, 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Dr. Rev. Tony Larson officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with family on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until time of service at 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers contributions to the family c/o Nancy J. Combs would be appreciated.

We are thankful to Eric at Motion Therapy who helped Steve walk (with braces and a walker); to the friends who drove him to the Y where he could roll in bad weather; to the bicycle shops; the people at McMynn Tower where Community Care provided him with a pleasant apartment and the assistance he needed, and all the care givers there.
