Sister Evelyn Antoine, O.P., 86, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center, Racine, WI on Thursday June 23, 2016.

Evelyn Margaret was born February 27, 1930 to Edward and Clara (nee: Bittner) Antoine in Belgium, WI. On September 4, 1948 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1949 she was given the religious name Sister Claretta. She professed her first vows in 1951 and her final vows in 1957. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Evelyn.

Sister Evelyn spent many years in service to others as a teacher, principal and pastoral minister. She began her ministry in 1951 at St. Mary, Kenosha. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were Holy Angels, Milwaukee; St. Bernard, Madison; St. Joseph, Racine; St. Mary, Tomah and St. Mary, Janesville. In 1979 she began her pastoral work at Our Lady Queen of the Universe, Woodruff. She also did pastoral work at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay; Sacred Heart Parish, Shawano; and St. John the Evangelist/St. Luke, Spring Green/Plain. She also served in Michigan. In 2007 she moved to Racine and worked as a Racine Literacy tutor and did prison ministry. She was also a Senior Companion Volunteer. In June 2016 she became a resident at Lakeshore Manor, Racine.

Sister Evelyn is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers Eugene, Edgar, Clarence and Ervin and her sister Alice Poklasny.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday June 29, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Internment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.

The Racine Dominicans would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Lakeshore Manor, All Saints Medical Center and Wheaton Franciscan Hospice who cared for Sister Evelyn.
