Sister Rose Ellen Mlodzik, O.P., 103, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI on Sunday September 25, 2016.

Gertrude Mlodzik was born March 26, 1913 to Andrew and Anna (nee: Cybart) Mlodzik in Princeton, WI. On September 3, 1927 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1929 she was given the religious name Sister Rose Ellen. She professed her first vows in 1931 and her final vows in 1937.

Sister Rose Ellen spent many years in ministry to others as a teacher and as a librarian. She began her ministry in 1928 at Nativity Grade School in Detroit, MI. In Racine she ministered at St. Rose, St. Joseph, St. Catherine’s High School, College of Racine, and St. John’s Reading Improvement Center. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Luke, Plain; St. Mary, Janesville; SS. Peter & Paul, Green Bay; and St. Norbert, Roxbury. She also served in Michigan. In many places she was involved in school music, young adult and adult choirs and was an organist. In 1977 she moved to Siena Center where she continued her ministry in the Siena Center library and the Adult Learning Program. She became a resident of Lakeshore Manor, Racine in April, 2013.

Sister Rose Ellen is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates, her brother Donald (Corrine); nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Edward, Phil, Ray and Victor and her sisters Eleanore Kanke, Martha Sterk, Marcella Nielson and Sister Marie Gertrude Mlodzik, O.P.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday, September 28, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Internment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
