Sister Marya Klapkowski, O.P., 91, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center, Racine, WI on Saturday August 29, 2015.

Irene Marianne was born August 23, 1924 to Matthew and Mary (nee: Dubiel) Klapkowski in Chicago, IL. On February 23, 1951 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in August 1951 she was given the religious name Sister Marya. She professed her first vows in 1953 and her final vows in 1959.

Sister Marya spent many years in service to others in Business Offices. She began her ministry in 1955 at Dominican College Racine as the Business Office Manager. In 1968 she became the Treasurer of St. Catherine’s Infirmary at Siena Center, Racine. From 1991-2006 she ministered at Villa St. Anna, Racine as a receptionist. After her retirement from Villa St. Anna she did Community Service at Siena Center.

Sister Marya is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Walter and Stephen; and her sisters Estelle Kozacki and Sophie Fay Syc.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday September 2, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
