Sister Bernadette Weinberger, O.P., 91, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Saturday April 1, 2017.

Bernadette was born May 7, 1925 to Henry and Bernadette (nee: Koch) Weinberger in Leroy, WI. On August 30, 1939 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1941 she was given the religious name Sister Mary Henry. She professed her first vows in 1946 and her final vows in 1952. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Bernadette.

Sister Bernadette spent many years in service to others in Food Service, Domestic Maintenance and child care. She began her ministry in 1946 at St. Clement, Center Line, MI. Places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Francis Xavier, Merrill; Our Lady of the Oaks, Pewaukee; St. Catherine Convent, Dominican College and Siena Center, Racine. She also served in Michigan at Nativity, Detroit and Cairo, Egypt. She continued to do community service and child care when she moved to Siena Center. In October 2014 she became a resident at Lakeshore Manor.

Sister Bernadette is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother-in-law Lawrence Zimmer; her sister-in-law Dolores Weinberger; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers Henry, Joseph, and John and her sisters Margaret and Mary Weinberger, Eugenia Oehman, and Anna Zimmer.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Friday April 7, 2017 beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Internment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
