Thatcher, Shirley 2/28/1941 - 4/1/2019 Bangor Passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor. Shirley was born February 28, 1941 in Bangor, the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Johnson and had lived her entire life in the Bangor Area. She graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1959. Shirley was a lifetime member of the Bangor Church of Christ where she also served on the missions committee. She was very active in many community groups including the Bangor Alumni Association, Bangor Historical Society, South Haven Rod and Gun Club, South Haven Steel-headers, Van Buren Sportsman Club, Eastern Star, Operation Injured Solider and Lest we Forget. Shirley loved hunting, fishing and photography. She was an avid reader, and collector of hats. She and her husband spent many hours birdwatching and listening to Celtic and folk music. Surviving is her beloved husband Bruce; children, Glenn (Karen) Marr, Becky Thatcher-Bachus, Douglas Thatcher, Matthew (Nicole) Thatcher, Elizabeth (Eric) Bardwell; 13 grandchildren, Connie, Alyse, Victoria, Zachary, Sydney, Benjamin, Bailey, Isabel, Christopher, Sadie, Lilly, Olivia and Samantha; many great grandchildren; 3 siblings, Marion Spratt, David (Sharon) Johnson and Kathy (Larry) French; a special cousin Bob (Lois) Towne. She was preceded in death by a son Allen Marr, husband John Wood. Following her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will meet friends on Friday, April 12th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Bangor Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home, www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com. A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 13th, 12:30 PM at the Bangor Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Bangor Church of Christ or the Bangor Historical Society.
