Shirley L. Douglas

Douglas, Shirley L. Kalamazoo Age 91, passed away late Sunday evening, December 18, 2022. Shirley was born in Columbus, OH, on February 19, 1931, the daughter of Leo and Esther (Mysen) Toepfner. At a young age, the family relocated to Muskegon, MI. Shirley made her home there and in 1963, her family moved to Portage, MI. She graduated from Muskegon High School and attended the University of Michigan where she studied elementary education. She loved teaching pre-school and kindergarten in Muskegon. After moving to the Kalamazoo area, she worked as a Medical Records Secretary for the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital, a position from which she retired. Nothing was more important to Shirley than her family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her children, Kim Douglas, Kathleen Douglas, and John (Kathy) Douglas; grandchildren, Daniel (Ashley) Douglas and Katelyn Douglas; nieces, Julie and Emily; nephews, Stephen, Stuart and Jeffrey; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Marilyn Toepfner Fors. No services are being planned.
