Shirley Lenora Guernsey, 89 of Buckley, died Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
She was born on January 13, 1927 in Buckley the daughter of Dorr and Nora (Gill) Horton.
Shirley was a former member of the Cornell Church of Christ. She was a past president of the Farm Bureau and former member of the PTA. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, crafts, camping, farming and attending to the cows.
Shirley is survived by her children, Elmer (Susan) Guernsey of Buckley, Susan (Ronald) Meteer of Buckley, Rex Guernsey of Kingsley, Edmund Guernsey of
Wyoming, Neil (Kathy) Guernsey of Traverse City, Carl (Helena) Guernsey of Traverse City, Sally Guernsey of Buckley and Milton (Patricia) Guernsey Jr. of Holton, numerous grand children, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a surrogate mother and grandmother to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton J. Guernsey Sr., and a sister, Rosemary Conway.
Cremation has taken place. An informal gathering with the family will be held from 2pm to 6pm, Monday, May 9th, 2016 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.
