JANCASZ, SHERRIE L.
Sherrie Lynn Jancasz, age 65, passed away July 15, 2016, at her residence in Chula Vista, CA. Sherrie was born January 11, 1951 in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of John and June (Miles) Jancasz. She was a graduate of Portage Central High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University and her Master of Education from San Diego State University. Sherrie was a resident of Kalamazoo until relocating to California. She enjoyed 46 years of teaching school in Kalamazoo School District and Chula Vista Schools in California, retiring in 2015 from Clearview School in California. Sherrie was Teacher of the Year in 1993 honored by Cox Cable San Diego and in 2005 received the Teacher Mentor Award from the Arroyo Vista School. She was a girl scout leader for many years. Sherrie was a member of the San Diego Rod & Reel Club; had received an award from the International Game Fish Association and started a fishing club for students called “The Astonishing Anglers” in 1990. She had served as Treasurer of the Bonita Organic Garden Club and most recently accomplished becoming a Master Gardener from the University of California in 2016. She enjoyed traveling all over the world. Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother Timothy Jancasz. Surviving are her sister Nancy (Brad) Mora; her brothers Richard (Neda) Jancasz and John (Lori) Jancasz, Jr.; an uncle Delton Miles; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11th from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave where a rosary will be recited at 7:30PM Thursday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM Friday, August 12th at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 5855 East V Ave, Vicksburg with Msgr. Thomas Martin presiding. Interment will be in South Portage Cemetery. Memorials in Sherrie’s memory may be directed to Kalamazoo Animal Rescue or the American Cancer Society.
