A man of deep conviction, commitment, and honesty Scott Uhl lived his life in conscious service of his family and community. With signature style and unwavering integrity, Scott gave 100% in all his endeavors, thus encouraging others to do the same. Scott’s contributions to the community will long be remembered as will his devotion to his family. Revered by many, Scott will be deeply missed.

1958, the year the microchip was invented, NASA was formed, gas was only .25 cents a gallon, and unemployment was less than 2%. While the Packard ended production, National Airlines began the first passenger flights with the Boeing 707; Billie Holiday and Elvis Presley dominated the radio, and Candid Camera brought laughter to our homes each week. It was truly a time of hope and prosperity. Nowhere did hope reign more clearly than in the hearts and home of Robert Lynn and Marcile Elaine (Haynes) Uhl as they welcomed their son Scott on July 23rd.

Growing up in Northern Indiana during the 60s and 70s, Scott thoroughly loved spending as much time riding his ponies as possible. As a teen, he took pleasure chopping the town in his car. Scott proudly graduated from East Noble High School in 1976.

On August 27, 1982, at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church near Kendallville, Scott had the honor of marrying Rose Marie (Diley). The two created a loving home for their three children Michelle, Chad, and Zach where the value of being your word served as a firm foundation for all that they did. Scott’s integrity was built on the belief that it was crucial to fulfilling your promises, to always be on time, giving 110% in every endeavor, and saying what he meant and meaning what he said. There was little guesswork when it came to Scott, he was a straight shooter whose honesty could be both simultaneously unnerving and refreshing.

A proud father, Scott gave his unwavering support to each of his children and relished in their accomplishments. Scott could not have been any prouder of Andy’s winning the national college wrestling title. Having the honor of walking Michelle down the aisle on her wedding day, proved to be Scott’s very best day.

A man of many skills and talents, Scott provided for his family by working several different jobs over his lifetime. For 16 years he was employed with Foamex in Auburn, Indiana. In 1994 he started Uhl Realty in Avilla which he ran until 2001. He co-owned Remax HRS for three years, worked at Avilla Hardware for twelve years, and served as the warehouse manager at Van’s Furniture Home Center in Auburn since 2013.

Scott possessed a deep commitment to the community he lived in and volunteered his time in many different ways. He served several terms on the Avilla Park Board, the Avilla Board of Zoning Appeals, and enthusiastically supported the Noble County Community Fair Association; serving on the board from 1986 thru 2013, taking on an active leadership role in the Freedom Festival and attending the fair convention. Softball and cards were also a favorite for Scott. He enjoyed coaching often espousing his favorite quote that “2nd sucks!” in an effort to inspire an unwillingness to settle for anything less than first place in his players. Scott also gave much of his time developing the baseball fields at Avilla Park.

While The Big Bang Theory and Survivor afforded Scott much entertainment, his true passion was gambling at Firekeepers or in Las Vegas.

Scott’s zest for life, his family, and his community will long inspire all who knew him. Though Scott’s absence will prove challenging, may it prove a deep comfort to know that whether playing a game of softball, volunteering to serve the community, enjoying the accomplishments of a loved one, or striving for first place we will be carrying his legacy forward in our own lives.
