Sara Gallas

(nee Siegel). Passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2013 at the age of 96 after a 16 year battle with Alzheimers. Sara taught her children right from wrong, taught them about charity for the community; dignity for all persons no matter their race or religion: a legacy of integrity and hard work.

Beloved wife, happily married to the late Lou Gallas for 45 years until his death in 1984. Loving daughter of the late Harry and Celia Holzman Siegel. Adoring sister of the late Philip Siegel and his wife, Ruth. Survived by her son Richard Gallas, his wife Louisa, of Milwaukee; Lawrence Gallas, his wife Harriet, Mundelein, Il; and Barry Gallas, his wife Pat, of Atlanta, GA. Also survived by beloved granddaughters, Lynn Oko, and husband, Scott Oko, Jacksonville, FL; Marla Jean Gallas Thacker, Memphis Tennessee; Lisa Marschinke and husband David; Nancy Shamberg and husband Gregg; Sherry Rosenberg and husband Jay; and 14 beloved great grandchildren, Danielle and Courtney Oko; Alexander and Brendan Thacker; Ellie, Daniel, and Carly Marschinke; Benjamin, Jesse and Emerson Shamberg; Quinn, Gabriel, Millie and Remy Rosenberg. She was Aunt Sara to her nieces Debra, Judith, Barbara, Bonnie, and nephew, the late Alan Siegel, and their families. Also missed by many friends and extended family. She served as treasurer of the City of Hope in the 1950’s and was a President of her Milwaukee Hadassah chapter.

During her long illness, for 11 years she was cared for by her guardian angel and skilled caretaker, Cynthia Valentin, who came to love Sara as her own family; we are forever grateful for her kindness, love, patience and dedication; we also have deep gratitude to Corazon Ramirez and Flora Uriarte for thei assistance in caretaking. Also thank you to Horizon Hospice, particularly Megan Adams, R.N.

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday November 7th at 11 AM. At Mound Zion Cemetery, 14510 West North Avenue, Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Sara’s name to the Alzheimers Association, 620 S. 76th Street, #160, Milwaukee, WI 53214; or Hunger Task Force,201 S. Hawley Ct. Milwaukee, WI 53214.
