Passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 7, 2017 at her home with her family after struggling with congestive heart failure. Ruth was born January 7, 1929 in Woburn, MA to the late William and Lilla (Osgood) Gile. Contrary to her older brother's claims she did not cause the Great Depression. Ruth enjoyed a long career in service to the City of Kalamazoo. She worked in the city manager's office, the city convention center, the water department, and retired after serving as City Clerk. She also enjoyed gardening, playing contract bridge, the historical society, and the Ladies Library Association. Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, Francis W. Allen and James Tydeman, both Western Michigan University librarians. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, William and Howard Gile; and step-daughter, Dorothy Allen Clark. Ruth is survived by her children, Denise (Dan) Trainer, Steven Allen, Janice (Mark) Troll; 2 step-children, Frank Allen, Ann Tydeman-Solomon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth gave back to multiple charities. In lieu of flowers, she would love for you to give a little extra to the charity of your choice in her memory. There will be no visitation or services.
