Ruth Hartgerink

Ruth Annette Hartgerink, age 96, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2017. She was born January 1, 1921 in Kalamazoo, the only child of John & Myra (Stanton) Houseman. Ruth was a life-long resident of the Kalamazoo/Portage area and graduated from Western Michigan University with an Economics Degree in 1943. She enjoyed living on West Lake and the many "snowbird" trips she and her late husband Duane took to Florida. She will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature and love of her family and pet dogs. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Victor Hartgerink. Surviving are her three children, Linda (Charles) Lane of Grand Rapids, Cynthia Moyle of Norton Shores, and John (Cathy) Hartgerink of Portage; seven grandchildren, Benjamin (Lori) Rousch, Kendra (Michael) Conlon, Matthew (Beverly) Rousch, Patrick (Amanda) Lane, Kathleen (Ryan) Spangler, Jared (Nichole) Shepard, and Brian Shepard; twelve great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jay Hartgerink; and sister-in-law, Ruth Hartgerink. A private family service will take place at Sanctuary at St. Mary's in Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sanctuary at St. Mary's, Grand Rapids. Michigan Cremation.
