Surrounded by her loving family, Ruth E. Schmalfelt, age 86, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at her residence. Ruth was born in St. Francis, WI, March 27, 1931, daughter of the late Joseph and Jeanette (Nee: Koronkowski) Klump.

Prior to her marriage, Ruth worked at Dun & Bradstreet. On November 21, 1953 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Milwaukee she was united in marriage to John “Jack” C. Schmalfelt. Ruth was a longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and volunteered for many years at the hospital. An excellent baker, Ruth will be fondly remembered for her beautifully themed birthday cakes and assorted delectable Christmas cookies. One of Ruth’s greatest joys came from her devotion raising and caring for her family. She loved attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting activities and later in life, watching sporting programs with her husband. Ruth enjoyed traveling with Jack for many years, especially to Hawaii and Naples, Florida.

She will be dearly missed by Jack, her loving husband of sixty-three years; her children, Sandra (Dennis) Meulemans of Lake Forest, IL, Dean Schmalfelt, Terri (Randy) Rieser, all of Racine, Patricia Oliver of Milwaukee; her grandchildren, Nicole (Joel) DaPra of Racine, Matthew Rieser, Jenna Meulemans, Laura (John) Goetz; sister-in-law, Sharon Klump of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Klump; sister, Patricia (Kenneth) Gilbert; and sister-in-law, Mary (Ray) Hannes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 1, 2017, 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass at 10:30 A.M. Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School or to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Wheaton Franciscan Home Health and Hospice, especially her caregivers, Linda and Cara.
