Ruth Cornell Athey age 93 of Holland died Thursday January 14, 2016 at Lakeside Vista in Holland.
Ruth was the daughter of Honorable Thurber and Pauline Cornell of Howell, Michigan. She graduated from Howell High School in 1939 and Michigan State University in 1943 where she received her teaching certificate.
In 1950 she moved to Holland with her husband Bryan and taught high school at Holland High School.
Following her retirement Ruth fell in love with antiques. She owned and operated Antiques Etc. since 1967. She was a member of Hope Church, the Women's Circle, Women's Literary Club and the A.A.U.W. For many years she volunteered with the Red Cross and was involved with helping displaced victims in N.Y. City during 911.
Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter Phyllis Jean as well as her husband Bryan.
She is survived by her daughter LuAnn Athey of Holland, sister Mary Dewey of Jackson, MI. and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, January 23,2016, at Hope Church, 77 West 11th St.Holland with Rev. Gordon Wiersma officiating. A reception will be held following services in the commons.
