Obituary
Russell John Ford Jr., age 78 of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away July 6, 2024. He was born on May 29, 1946 in Yuba City, California.
Russ was a beloved husband to Jan Ford for 39 years. Loving Dad to Julie (Pat) McMullen, Jeffrey (Kat) Ford. RD "Regular Dad" to Paula (Tim) Ponicki, Mary (Scott) Ponicki and James (Mary) Ponicki. Cherished Grandpa to Kameron Ford, Karsen Ford, Aubree (Cody) Murphy, Tara (Josiah) Kennedy, Brittany Ponicki, Fawn Hamilton, Tom Anders, Haylee (Alex) Blick, Luke Schuring and Derrick Schuring. Adored Great Grandpa "Gpa" to John, Xenia, Levi, Brooklyn, and Julia.
Russ was preceded in death by his Grandson, Thomas Paul Anders and Brother, Ronald (Nancy) Ford. Surviving are his siblings Kathi (Bob) McFarlin, Rick (Ruth Ann) Ford and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Russ grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and graduated from Union High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He had remained lifelong friends with several buddies, who nicknamed him "Snotty."
He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force as a Sergeant. On July 9, 2024, he would have celebrated 53 years of Lifetime Service at UA Local 357 Plumbers, Fitters in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Some will also remember him as "Coach" of their union softball team.
Russ' wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandkids were the loves of his life. They all adored him and he delighted in their presence. Russ fought long and hard in the loving care of Hope Hospice of Fort Myers, Florida and our family is forever thankful for them.
Remembering the sparkle in his eyes and crooked grin, he will be missed by many.
An open to the public military service will be held on August 23, 2024, at 2:30 P.M. at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Immediately following, a Celebration of Life will be held at Moose Lodge 1649, located at 5420 Moose Lodge Dr., Delton, Michigan 49046.
