Throughout her rich and rewarding life, Rosemary Majewski experienced so many of the best things that life has to offer, but what made these things so truly extraordinary was sharing them with the ones she loved. She was a nurturing and devoted mother, but perhaps her favorite role was that of doting grandmother who seized every opportunity to spoil her grandchildren. Rosemary was selfless when it came to others, and her compassion was unmatched. She leaves behind a legacy that is deeply rooted in humility, grace, and unwavering strength that will be carried on by those who follow in her footsteps.

The Roaring Twenties brought us some of the most exciting days we have witnessed as a nation. Innovation was taking us places we had never been, and technology was transforming the way we lived our everyday lives. Radios, washing machines, and more affordable cars due to the implementation of the assembly line were just a few of these advancements, and prosperity covered cities and towns all across our great land. Amidst this exciting time was a time of great anticipation in the lives of John and Vivian (Paiskowski) Joeton as they were eagerly awaiting the birth of a new baby as the winds of fall began to settle in on the city of Chicago, Illinois, in 1926. The big day finally arrived on October 1st when the baby girl they named Rosemary Louise drew her first breath. She was raised in the family home in Detroit, Michigan. Rosemary’s mother was devoted to loving and caring for her family, and she also made great milkshakes at Truins Candy and also worked for Feblo, Inc. Her father was a printer, one of the first to work with color. Rosemary attended local schools and went on to graduate from high school. After graduating, Rosemary packaged auto parts for Ford Motor Company.

New and exciting changes were in store for Rosemary when she met the young man who would forever hold the key to her heart. His name was Chester Majewski, and after dating for a time they were united in marriage. Together they welcomed four children including their three sons, John, Mike, and Ed, as well as one daughter, Vivian, into their hearts and home. From the moment she became a mother, Rosemary fully immersed herself into that role as her children were her heart and soul.

Throughout her life Rosemary was the heartbeat of her family, and she was always there for them in ways both great and small. When her husband and son went fishing she was there waiting for them no matter what time they came in to ask if they had any luck. Sometimes she was waiting for them until 2 in the morning! When Ed got older and moved away, Rosemary and Chet traveled across the country to visit him in Colorado bearing a basket full of his favorite Michigan treats like fresh Polish sausage. She loved cooking and baking for her family, but it sure was a special treat when someone else cooked for her. Of course the dinner was always great, like when they went to John and Sharon’s, but she said that it was the company that was always the best. This is such a simple sentiment, but it has become such a meaningful traditional saying in their family to this day. Rosemary also said how she was the luckiest person in the world because of her children and later her grandchildren, too. When the family went up North to the family cottage she was the first one up. Actually, by the time the next person got up she had already been to the store to get sweet treats including huge frosted cinnamon rolls and donuts for everyone to share.

Nothing compared to being a grandmother when it came to Rosemary. Because she knew Stephanie was a huge fan of the Harry Potter books, Rosemary made sure to pre-order each new book and was the first in line to pick it up making Stephanie the first of her friends to get a copy in her hands every time. Rachel loved hanging out with Grandma Rosemary and playing the card game War, which Rosemary had taught her. The two played for hours on end. One of Sam’s favorite times with Grandma Rosemary was when Rosemary taught her how to make her famous pork and veal meatballs. To this day, Sam is the expert at making these meatballs and will carry down this tradition for years to come.

All who knew Rosemary would agree that she was truly one of a kind. She could bargain hunt like no other, and she was also the coupon queen. It has also been said that Rosemary was a food hoarder as her food cellar was continually stocked with at least 20 cans of coffee as she was an avid coffee drinker, canned vegetables and fruit, detergent, cookies, hand soap, and prune juice. For years they went to Florida for six to eight weeks at a time, and they also vacationed with lifelong friends. Rosemary loved to play Keno, and she religiously read the TV Guide from cover to cover. When it came to television, she loved the The Price is Right, Magnum, P.I., Walker, Texas Ranger, Lawrence Welk, and Star Trek.

With unending love for those around her, Rosemary Majewski filled the world with such joy. She was the matriarch of her family and a devoted and loyal friend to many. Life was not without times of trial for Rosemary, but she faced whatever game her way with both a quiet strength and a graceful courage that are to be admired. She leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that will never fade away.

Rosemary Louise Majewski died on January 18, 2015. Rosemary’s family includes her husband Chester "Chet", their children, John (Sharon), Mike, Ed (Laura), and Vivian (Douglas) Rohrbach; and her grandchildren, Stephanie, Rachel, and Samantha.
